Bilirubin may fluctuate if you are having Gilbert syndrome. However, it may be highest during an infection (such as the flu), following periods of fasting, and during menstrual periods in some women too.
Keep yourself hydrated and cut down on animal protein for two weeks to bring down your bilirubin to normal.
High bilirubin levels may mean your liver is not functioning well. However, abnormal results don't always mean you have a medical condition that needs treatment.
