Bilirubin may fluctuate if you are having Gilbert syndrome. However, it may be highest during an infection (such as the flu), following periods of fasting, and during menstrual periods in some women too.
A bilirubin of 20 or more on a blood test will be marked as high. One may have jaundice if the total bilirubin reaches a level roughly between 35 and 50 micromoles/liter.
It is quiet high. Consider consulting with a doctor at the earliest.
It means your liver is not functioning properly. Consult with a doctor to know the root cause.
High bilirubin levels may mean your liver is not functioning well. However, abnormal results don't always mean you have a medical condition that needs treatment.
Different labs may have slightly different ranges for what they consider normal bilirubin levels. On average, total bilirubin levels between 0.2 and 1.3 mg/dL are considered normal for children and adults.
Keep yourself hydrated and cut down on animal protein for two weeks to bring down your bilirubin to normal.
Your liver can become inflamed for different reasons, such as infection with hepatitis virus, and excessive drug or alcohol use.
It could be a viral disease or autoimmune disorder. You are highly recommended to get yourself checked by a doctor.
