Allergic rhinitis is a common disorder that is triggered by inhaling tiny particles of allergens such as dust, pollen, animal dander or protein and mold etc. It is generally linked to asthma. Some of its common symptoms include nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, nose block, nasal itch, and sneezing. Since it is episodic and not detected easily, it can become a long-standing condition over the years.

Specifications of the Allergic Rhinitis Test

Allergic rhinitis is an inflammation of the nasal mucosa. It is a common yet chronic disorder that affects a major section of the population. With increasing changes in the weather and living conditions, studies and evidence suggest that this disorder is increasing constantly.

Previously, this disorder was considered to be limited to the nose and nasal passages. However, current studies and evidence have shown that it may be inclusive of systemic airway disease and can affect your entire respiratory as well as other systems as it promotes a proinflammatory milieu.

This disorder can have three subgroups: seasonal, perennial, and occupational. Allergens like trees, grass, and weed pollens generally lead to seasonal symptoms. Indoor allergens such as mold spores, dust mites, pet dander, insect proteins, etc., can cause perennial symptoms. Any Exposure to irritants or allergens at workplace can trigger occupational rhinitis. Hence, regular screening and testing for rhinitis are highly recommended.

The Allergic Rhinitis/Asthma Mini panel Test helps confirm the underlying allergies causing rhinitis.

One of the most common ways of diagnosing this disorder is by skin-prick testing. This involves placing drops of a commercial extract of a particular allergen on the forearms or back. After that, the skin is pricked using a needle to allow the allergen to gel in with your immune system. If you are allergic to the allergen substance placed on your skin, you will develop a small itchy spot or swelling on your skin within 15-20 minutes.

The other alternative to skin-prick testing is IgE testing. This type of testing checks the presence of an immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibody specific to allergies in your blood.

If the results show that you are allergic, you can consult your doctor and begin the treatment which can include avoidance of things you were detected to have allergy immediately.

Why Should You Get Tested?

Chronic allergic rhinitis can develop complications if left undetected or untreated. So, if you experience the symptoms, take the test to avoid your risk of contracting other diseases and disorders.
