A hematology analyzer measures hemoglobin via a colorimetric method. It works by a system based on the principle of reflectance photometry. Diluted blood is mixed with reagents containing potassium ferricyanide and potassium cynide.
It is not harmful, however, 5.5 hemoglobin is very low and can lead to dizziness and unexplained fatigue. The doctor may prescribe medications and an iron rich diet to resolve anemia.
If your hemoglobin count is low then you are anemic. The body is likely to feel weak, tired and pale because oxygen is not reaching all parts of the body adequately.
Oxygen levels between 95% to 100% is normal when measured by a pulse oximeter. However, still if you are experiencing breathing difficulties then you may be suffering from COPD or any undiagnosed medical condition which is causing shortness of breathe (dyspnea).
