This test measures the percentage of red blood cells in the blood which carry oxygen to all parts of the body. It also helps diagnose certain conditions which are caused due to too many or few red blood cells such as anemia.

A hematocrit test is part of a complete blood count (CBC). It measures the proportion of red blood cells in your blood can help your doctor make a diagnosis or monitor your response to a treatment. A lower than normal hematocrit can indicate that there are insufficient red blood cells which can further lead to anemia.
In adults, normal levels for men range from 41%-50%. For women, the normal range is slightly lower 36%-44%. Below normal range usually indicates anemia.
