Yes, doctors do test for diabetes as a part of routine check up specially after the age of 30.
If you have type1 diabetes then you need to test it everyday and if you have type 2 diabetes then you can test it once in two days.
A post-prandial blood glucose test is done ideally two hours after meals to check how well the body is absorbing glucose from the food.
If your sugar levels are 170 then you are considered diabetic and you should consult a doctor immediately.
