My dad, who's 60, has been prescribed Azee 500 three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for his COPD, along with some other inhalers. I think Azee 500 is an antibiotic, but I'm worried if it's alright to take an antibiotic for as long as 3 months. Could you shed some light on this?

Azee 500 (Azithromycin) is an antibiotic, and while it's typically used for short-term treatment, long-term use can sometimes be necessary for chronic conditions like COPD to prevent bacterial infections. However, extended use should be monitored closely by a doctor to avoid side effects like resistance or disruption of gut bacteria. Its essential to follow the prescribed regimen and attend regular check-ups.

View allI've been having some issues with my breathing, and it feels like I'm choking when I cough. This has been going on for the past week. Before this, I'd been dealing with a cough for about 10 days. I'm taking medication prescribed by my doctor, but it doesn't seem to be helping at all. What could be going on, and should I be doing something different to get relief?

I'm worried that I might have caught TB from a friend who's being treated for it, but I don't have any symptoms yet. I'm trying to figure out which test would be most accurate to detect latent TB. Can the Mantoux test and sputum AFB both find it, or is one better than the other?
The most accurate test for detecting latent TB is the Interferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA), such as QuantiFERON or T-SPOT.TB, which measures the immune response to TB proteins; the Mantoux test (Tuberculin Skin Test) is also used, but it has some limitations, such as cross-reactivity with BCG vaccine and false negatives in immunocompromised individuals; sputum AFB (Acid-Fast Bacillus) smear is used to diagnose active TB, not latent TB, so it's not relevant in your case;

I'm experiencing some breathing difficulties when I first start walking, but it seems to get better after a bit. Could this be related to anxiety? I'm a bit worried and not sure what's going on. Would appreciate any advice you might have.
