Hi doctor, my grandfather had COVID pneumonia and his HRCT score was 12/25. He was discharged 40 days ago but for the past 5-6 days, his oxygen level drops to around 92-93 while he's sleeping, and then goes back up to 96-97 when he wakes up. Should we be worried about this? His other readings are normal, but his D-dimer is slightly elevated at 1.06 (normal is below 0.5). CRP is fine too. What should we do to help him and is this something serious?
It's not uncommon for oxygen levels to fluctuate slightly during sleep, especially after recovering from COVID-19 pneumonia. However, if the oxygen level drops below 90%, it could indicate a need for further monitoring. The elevated D-dimer suggests some ongoing inflammation or clotting risk, so its important to keep in touch with your healthcare provider to assess if further tests or treatments are needed.
