For most healthy people, normal blood glucose levels are as follows: When fasting: Between 4.0 and 5.4 mmol/L (72 to 99 mg/dL). 2 hours after eating: Up to 7.8 mmol/L (140 mg/dL)
Pancrease secerete insulin which controls insulin levels in the blood.
Over time, high blood sugar can damage the blood vessels and nerves in your heart. People with diabetes also have an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, including heart attack and stroke. Untreated high blood sugar can also block blood vessels. This can lead to infections and foot ulcers.
The readings should be ideally below 140mg/dl. Additionally, the doctor will assess your results depending upon your age.
In type 2 diabetes, the pancreas makes insulin, but the cells don't respond to it as they should. This is called insulin resistance.
