Liver disease doesn't always cause noticeable signs and symptoms. If signs and symptoms of liver disease do occur, they may include: Skin and eyes that appear yellowish (jaundice) Abdominal pain and swelling.
Bilirubin results depend on your age, gender, and health. Normal bilirubin levels are generally less than 1 milligram per deciliter (mg/dL). Adults with jaundice generally have bilirubin levels greater than 2.5mg/dL.
Early-stage NAFLD does not usually cause any harm, but it can lead to serious liver damage, including cirrhosis, if it gets worse.
A few scientists suggest that jaundice is a symptom of more advanced liver cancers. This type of jaundice typically represents the cancer growing and blocking bile from draining as it should. However, liver cancer is not the only cause of jaundice.
First and foremost the doctors recommend liver function tests. If the test results are worrisome then they might recommend you to undergo a CT or MRI.
