The doctor only asks you to repeat the test every few months if the tests are boderline or very high. Then they must be checked routinely to ensure that organs are working fine.

A lipid profile test and fasting blood glucose need minimum 10 hours of fasting howver, check with your doctor if you are only checking lipid profile for certain parameters then you might not need fasting.
