Hemoglobin levels are considered low if they are below 12 in women, and below 13 in males.
In males, a healthy hemoglobin level is between 13.2 and 16.6 grams per deciliter of blood (g/dL). In females, a hemoglobin count of between 11.6 and 15 g/dL is considered normal and healthy. 17.4 is slightly on the higher side you must consult a doctor specially if you are feeling tired and bruising easily.
Higher values of hemoglobin that is more than 16-17 in men and women indicate a underlying medical condition. This happens mostly because your body requires an increased oxygen carrying capacity. Additionally, it has been reported that it thickens the blood too making the body suceptible to medical conditions such as headaches.
If you are not undergoing chemotherapy and there is a drop in hemoglobin levels then it means you are under stress or not eating nutricious meals. This might be a possible cause for the drop in hemoglobin levels in two weeks.
If you have good control over diabetes then the good news is that HBA1C can drop by 10%. But if your levels are higher than 7.5 then the drop is slower.
