Why do patients with diabetes not stick to a diet plan?

It's not that every Diabetic patient does not stick to diet plan, it mostly depends on the person's lack of motivation irrespective of the disease. It's also understandable since diabetes is a long standing medical condition, every patient may need repetitive conusellings to adhere to diet plan.

My wife is 30 and has a thyroid issue that's preventing her from getting surgery. The doctor said her levels need to be normal first. What medicine and dosage would help bring her thyroid levels back to normal so she can proceed with the surgery?

I'm a bit worried about my recent fasting blood sugar level, which came out to be 87 mgdL. Also, my mom's result was 98.97. I'm around 6 feet tall and weigh about 100 kg. With these numbers, do I have prediabetes? And what about my mom? Is she at risk too? What steps should we take?
