The pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin to manage blood sugar levels.
Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose) and is diagnosed when fasting blood sugar of 126 mg/dl or more, post prandial blood sugar of 200 or more with glycated hemoglobin of 6.5% or more is seen on tests. Treatment is either tablets or insulin to control blood sugar levels along with life style modifications (Diet + exercise)
If pills aren't enough to get your blood sugar under control, your doctor may recommend insulin.
Both oral medicines and insulin are good at treating Diabetes, each having it's own benefits and side effects.
Hypertension might not cause Diabetes directly but increases the risk. People with high blood pressure usually have insulin resistance leading to Diabetes compared to those with typical blood pressure.
