My baby is 3 months old, and Ive been feeding both formula milk (Lactogen) and breast milk since around 2 months. The baby seemed fine with both, but for the past week, Ive noticed greenish stools. Im considering switching from Lactogen to Nan Pro. Is it safe to change the formula, and could the greenish stools be due to something else?
Greenish stools can be normal in breastfed babies, but in formula-fed babies, it might indicate a change in gut bacteria or a reaction to the formula. Possible reasons for greenish stools include:1. Introduction of a new food or formula: This can alter the gut microbiome, leading to changes in stool color.2. Foremilk-hindmilk imbalance: If the baby is not getting enough hindmilk (rich in fat), it can cause greenish stools.3. Gastrointestinal infection: Although less common, a viral or bacterial infection can cause changes in stool color.Changing FormulaBefore switching formulas, consider consulting your pediatrician to rule out any underlying issues. They can help determine if a formula change is necessary. If you do switch to Nan Pro, monitor your baby's stool color, consistency, and overall health. Some babies may take time to adjust to a new formula.
