I'm wondering if it's normal to have shortness of breath and chest tightness just before my period. It's something I've noticed happening and it's making me a bit anxious. Is this something I should be concerned about or is it generally harmless? Also, could you suggest which tests or checks I might need to consider?

It's not uncommon for some women to experience shortness of breath or chest tightness before their period due to hormonal changes. However, if these symptoms are severe or persistent, it's important to rule out other conditions. I would recommend starting with a physical exam and possibly tests like an ECG, chest X-ray, or blood work to ensure everything is fine.

My mom has been having really bad stomach pain and heavy menstrual bleeding. Her hemoglobin is low at 7.8 gm, and the sonography showed a bulky uterus. What could be causing these symptoms? Can this be treated with medication or does she need surgery?
Your mom's symptoms, including heavy bleeding, low hemoglobin, and a bulky uterus, suggest conditions like fibroids or adenomyosis. These can often cause anemia and severe pain. Initial treatment may include medications to control bleeding and raise hemoglobin, but surgery like hysterectomy might be needed if symptoms persist or worsen. A gynecologist should evaluate her further.
