I'm experiencing a lot of burping and I seem to get short of breath. When I take an antacid and the gas goes away, my breathlessness seems to improve. Could GERD or the excessive burping be causing this breathlessness? It's a bit worrying, and I'd love to understand what's going on.

The doctor recommended I get an operation but I'm really hesitant about endoscopy surgery. I'm also worried about taking time off work since getting leave is tough. Are there any other options I could consider instead of surgery?

Patient is advised for the gastroenterologist opinion for further treatment.

I'm worried about my uncle who's now 60. He tends to burp loudly and often complains about pain in his upper stomach. He keeps rubbing that area, and we're wondering if this could just be gas or if it might be something else we haven't considered. What should we be doing to help him out?

Yes, upper stomach pain can be caused by gas, especially if your uncle is experiencing loud burps. However, at the age of 60, other causes of stomach pain should also be considered, such as gastritis, peptic ulcers, or even more serious conditions like gallstones or pancreatitis. To help relieve his symptoms, your uncle can try taking an over-the-counter antacid like Tums or Maalox to help with gas and indigestion. He can also try Simethicone (Gas-X) to help break up gas bubbles in his stomach. It is important for him to avoid foods that can trigger gas, such as beans, broccoli, cabbage, and carbonated drinks. Additionally, eating smaller meals and avoiding lying down right after eating can also help reduce gas and stomach pain. If his symptoms persist or worsen, it is important for him to see a doctor for a proper evaluation and diagnosis.

I've been dealing with navel displacement for a while now. It's causing me a lot of gastric heaviness and my stomach always feels bloated. Is there any way to fix this for good? Plus, I'm having trouble with not completely evacuating. What should I do?

Navel displacement can lead to gastric issues and bloating. To help with this condition, you can try taking Simethicone (Gas-X) for bloating and Gas Relief. For incomplete evacuation, you can try a stool softener like Docusate Sodium (Colace) to help with bowel movements. Additionally, incorporating fiber supplements like Metamucil can also aid in improving bowel regularity. Remember to stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables.
